Moorestown High School Alum Dies

Thomas Bernhardt was an instructor at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. A service will be held this weekend.

Thomas C. Bernhardt, 64, of Mount Laurel, passed away suddenly on May 13, leaving behind many who loved and mourn him.  Thomas was a graduate of Moorestown High School, class of 1967. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from West Virginia University. He was director of advanced pharmacy practice experiences and an instructor in clinical pharmacy for the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, a position he held proudly for 34 years, and from which he received an Honorary Alumnus Award in 2010. He is also past president (1989-90) of the NJ Pharmaceutical Association. Former Moorestown Citizen of the Year Dies

An Army vet, Carroll Boyd Shingleton was an active community volunteer and a devoted family man.

Former Moorestown Citizen of the Year Carroll Boyd “CB” Shingleton passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 25, at the age of 84. CB was born on  Nov. 10, 1928, in Uniontown, PA. After working for his family’s company—Shingleton Brother’s Produce—he joined the Army’s 1st Calvary Division in 1947. Upon leaving the Army, he enrolled in West Virginia University, where he graduated early with honors. While raising a  young family, CB took a leap of faith and moved to Moorestown, not knowing a soul, in August 1965. CB diligently worked his way up to become the last president of Burlington County Trust Company, where he served for a decade. MHS Grad, Former Navy WAVE Dies

Ruth Allen, formerly of Moorestown, was 89 at the time of her death.

Ruth Allen (nee Slocum), of Mount Laurel, formerly Moorestown, died on April 19 at the age of 89. Ruth was a graduate of Moorestown High School, class of 1941. After high school, she went to work at the Provident in Philadelphia and joined the Navy WAVES. After Yeoman School, she served at the Sand Point Naval Air Station in Washington state. Upon leaving the Navy, she went to work as head teller for the Booster Savings and Loan, Moorestown Savings and Loan, and later Farmers and Mechanics Bank, all in Moorestown. She was the sister of Virginia Mattice, of Medford, and Bruce Slocum, of Moorestown. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Navy Vet, Former Moorestown Firefighter Dies

Arthur Young was 58. A service will be held at Lewis Funeral Home this week.

Arthur T. Young, of Maple Shade, formerly Moorestown, passed away suddenly at the age of 58 on Saturday, April 6. Arthur served in the U.S. Navy from 1973-79 and was a former member of the Moorestown Hose Co. No. 1. He worked for Weeks Marine in Camden for more than 15 years and was a member of the Operating Engineers Union. He was the brother of Frederick Young, James Young, Terri Young, Debbie Brown and John Young. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.   A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lewis Funeral Home, 78 E. Main St., Moorestown. Navy Vet, Former Moorestonian Dies

Services for Marc D. Cline will be held on Monday.

Marc D. Cline, of Southampton, formerly of Moorestown and Maple Shade, died on March 20 at the age of 77. Cline was retired from PSE&G in Moorestown after 32 years of service as the chief mechanic. He also honorably served in the U.S. Navy for four years, and was a member of the USS Sarsfield DD-837 Association, Tin Can Sailors, U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation, Fleet Reserve Association Branch 212, and life member of VFW Col. Harry Cooper Post 160, in Glen Burnie, MD. Barbara Reynolds was a resident of The Evergreens and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown.

Barbara Reynolds (nee Rynk) died on March 5 at The Evergreens in Moorestown at the age of 101. Barbara, a former Haddon Township resident for 45 years, was a graduate of Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA and a member of Ki Omega. She was a teacher with the Woodbury School District for 25 years. Barbara was also a former member of the Collingswood Presbyterian Church and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown. Arthur Kenneth Peacock died at his home in Moorestown on March 6. Ken was a graduate of Moorestown High School ('59) and a member of both basketball state championship teams in '58 and '59. Austrian Transplant, Longtime Moorestonian Dies

Hilda O. Pschunder was a faithful member of Trinity Episcopal Church and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Funeral services will be held this week.

Hilda O. (Weiler) Pschunder, of Moorestown, passed away on March 4 at her home. She was 90. Born in Vienna, Austria, she survived the bombings of World War II, earned a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Vienna, and was fluent in several languages. She emigrated with her family to Watertown, NY, in 1954, and moved to Moorestown in 1959. Hilda was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and a member of the Alter Guild of Trinity Episcopal Church in Moorestown for more than 35 years and a member of the Austrian-American Federation. Audrea Emily Ragone (nee Corriden) died on Friday, Feb. 15, at the age of 92. Audrea has been a resident of Moorestown for 76 years and was a graduate of Moorestown High School ('38). She is past president and member of the Evergreen Senior Women’s Club and looked forward to playing cards with her group of ladies every Tuesday. Eugene Francis Connolly, 80, formerly of Moorestown, died peacefully on Feb. 6, surrounded by family at his son’s home in Broomfield, CO. Born in Brockton, MA, Eugene was a longtime resident of Moorestown and North Falmouth, MA, and a faithful parishioner at Our Lady of Good Counsel. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1954-1956 and had retired from AT&T after 27-plus years of service as a marketing manager.
