Thomas C. Bernhardt, 64, of Mount Laurel, passed away suddenly on May 13, leaving behind many who loved and mourn him. Thomas was a graduate of Moorestown High School, class of 1967. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from West Virginia University. He was director of advanced pharmacy practice experiences and an instructor in clinical pharmacy for the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, a position he held proudly for 34 years, and from which he received an Honorary Alumnus Award in 2010. He is also past president (1989-90) of the NJ Pharmaceutical Association. An Army vet, Carroll Boyd Shingleton was an active community volunteer and a devoted family man.
Former Moorestown Citizen of the Year Carroll Boyd “CB” Shingleton passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 25, at the age of 84. CB was born on Nov. 10, 1928, in Uniontown, PA. After working for his family’s company—Shingleton Brother’s Produce—he joined the Army’s 1st Calvary Division in 1947. Upon leaving the Army, he enrolled in West Virginia University, where he graduated early with honors. While raising a young family, CB took a leap of faith and moved to Moorestown, not knowing a soul, in August 1965. CB diligently worked his way up to become the last president of Burlington County Trust Company, where he served for a decade. Ruth Allen (nee Slocum), of Mount Laurel, formerly Moorestown, died on April 19 at the age of 89. Ruth was a graduate of Moorestown High School, class of 1941. After high school, she went to work at the Provident in Philadelphia and joined the Navy WAVES. After Yeoman School, she served at the Sand Point Naval Air Station in Washington state. Upon leaving the Navy, she went to work as head teller for the Booster Savings and Loan, Moorestown Savings and Loan, and later Farmers and Mechanics Bank, all in Moorestown. She was the sister of Virginia Mattice, of Medford, and Bruce Slocum, of Moorestown. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Arthur T. Young, of Maple Shade, formerly Moorestown, passed away suddenly at the age of 58 on Saturday, April 6. Arthur served in the U.S. Navy from 1973-79 and was a former member of the Moorestown Hose Co. No. 1. He worked for Weeks Marine in Camden for more than 15 years and was a member of the Operating Engineers Union. He was the brother of Frederick Young, James Young, Terri Young, Debbie Brown and John Young. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Barbara, a former Haddon Township resident for 45 years, was a graduate of Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA and a member of Ki Omega. She was a teacher with the Woodbury School District for 25 years. Barbara was also a former member of the Collingswood Presbyterian Church and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown. Arthur Kenneth Peacock died at his home in Moorestown on March 6. Ken was a graduate of Moorestown High School ('59) and a member of both basketball state championship teams in '58 and '59. Hilda O. (Weiler) Pschunder, of Moorestown, passed away on March 4 at her home. She was 90. Born in Vienna, Austria, she survived the bombings of World War II, earned a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Vienna, and was fluent in several languages. She emigrated with her family to Watertown, NY, in 1954, and moved to Moorestown in 1959. Hilda was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and a member of the Alter Guild of Trinity Episcopal Church in Moorestown for more than 35 years and a member of the Austrian-American Federation.
