Town Manager Offers Insight on Municipal Complex and More

Township manager Scott Carew shared his thoughts on Lenola, the library, potential plans for the East Gate Friendly's and more when he stopped by the Moorestown Business Association.

Township manager Scott Carew dropped by the Moorestown Business Association's monthly meeting Wednesday to fill the business community in on a number of topics, ranging from the development of the municipal complex to economic development. Here's some of what he had to say:  On what's being done to improve the Lenola section of town: "I’ve heard a lot of sentiment that Lenola is sort of the forgotten stepchild of the township. I can assure that nothing could be further from the truth. I met in the last two months with the county bridge commission’s director of economic development and regional planning to review some of our zoning laws around Camden Avenue to come up with something that’s a little more business friendly. I know Lenola’s a …

As a new resident, i cant believe the junk i read. Where did this guy come from? He hasn't meant an idea he doesn't want to spend our hard earned tax dollars on. Doesn't he know people are struggling? Police at the recreation center? Why? Do we have a bunch of hoodlums living here? Where are there parents? What is with this Lenola stuff? I drive through there and it's like I entered Camden. The …   more ›

Police Director Seeks Business' Input on Downtown Parking

What do you think the township should do to address the failing parking meters on Main Street?

With the township weighing its options with what to do with the parking meters downtown, Moorestown Police Director Harry Johnson went in front of the business community Wednesday to solicit their opinions. Speaking before the Moorestown Business Association (MBA), Johnson laid out the situation: antiquated, frequently failing parking meters that cost nearly $400 apiece to replace, and a township budget of roughly $500 for maintenance each year. “We’re getting to a point now where we have to make a decision: We replace the meters as they are, or go with newer, higher tech, where you can use cards at the meters, or go to kiosks,” he explained, adding a fourth option—getting rid of the meters altogether. Hopefully Johnson wasn’t looking for …

Reminder: Candlelight Night is ON Tonight

Head downtown between 6-9 p.m. tonight to enjoy some early holiday shopping and other festivities.

It's been a wild week, so you may have missed this, but the 36th annual Candlelight Night will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight (Friday) on Main Street. There was some question earlier in the week as to whether the Moorestown Business Association (MBA)-sponsored event would be cancelled or postponed, due to the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy. However, MBA president Mark Morgan confirmed Wednesday the event—typically billed as the unofficial kickoff to the holiday season—would go off as usual Friday. "After checking with township manager Scott Carew and Police Director Harry Johnson, they have both said that the Main Street area is safe, and that the police department would be available to staff the closing of Main Street. If they had …

Photos: Moorestown Halloween Parade

Share your photos with us by uploading them here.

Hundreds of children and adults marched down Main Street Sunday for Moorestown's annual Halloween Parade. Parade-goers made their way down Main Street from PNC Bank, ending at Stokes Hill where the MBA had face painters, caricaturists, a moonbounce and a DJ set up. Prizes were given out for best costumes in several categories, including "Scariest," "Cutest" and "Best Look-alike." Parade chair Brian Cooper—vice president of the Moorestown Business Association (MBA), which sponsors the event—said there's no way to get an exact headcount of how many kids came to the parade, but the MBA prepared roughly 400 goodie bags and "we never have more than a few left." Candidates Lay Out Ideas for Improving Moorestown Business Climate

The candidates for township council stopped by the Moorestown Business Association to explain the variety of ways they could help new and existing businesses in town.

Both the Republican and Democratic candidates for township council visited with local businesses at the Moorestown Business Association (MBA) meeting Wednesday and were given the chance to explain how they would improve the business climate in Moorestown. The candidates—with the exception of Republican candidate Phil Garwood, who was unable to attend the meeting—offered various strategies for how to aid the revitalization of the township’s business districts, ranging from the hiring of a Main Street manager to the streamlining of regulations through the use of technology. What follows is a summary of each of the candidates’ views: Brian Sattinger (Democratic candidate) “What we’ve been hearing a lot is complaints about difficulties (with …

Photo Gallery: Autumn in Moorestown

Take pictures at the festival? Share them with your neighbors by uploading them here.

Thousands of people once again packed Main Street for a day of arts, crafts, food, entertainment, pumpkin-painting and scarecrow-making for the 19th annual Autumn in Moorestown festival. If you missed it, you missed a heckuva good time, as well as the unveiling of the "Moorestown Memories" monument outside the Community House. Created by former Moorestonian Chad Fisher, the 1,000-pound bronze monument depicts a group of children playing, which is "the best representation of what the Community House’s mission is,” according to board of trustees member Haynes Hendrickson. Fisher donated the monument in part to aid the Community House's capital campaign. Prior to the unveiling, George Schulmann, president of the board of trustees, petitioned …

Read on to get the skinny on Moorestown's big fall festival, from the entertainers who will be there to a special unveiling that will highlight the event.

It’s that time of year again. In just four days, Main Street will be jammed with crafters, artists, classic cars and entertainers as far as the eye can see—along with several thousand Moorestonians and their neighbors. The 19th annual Autumn in Moorestown festival will kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday, with nearly 100 arts and crafts vendors and roughly 200 classic cars expected to line Main Street from Church to Chester. Event co-chair Helen Davies-Miramontes said the event usually attracts between 15,000 to 20,000 visitors, making it one of downtown Moorestown’s most popular events, right alongside Moorestown Day. “It’s just an all-around great community event,” she said. “There’s really something there for everyone. There’s arts and crafts …
