Moorestown 2012: The Year in Pictures

Moorestown Patch brings you some of the defining images of the year that was.

2012 was a memorable year in Moorestown—from Hurricane Sandy wreaking havoc to progress on several major projects (i.e. town hall, the development of the mall)—and Patch was there to capture many of the most enduring moments in print and picture. Overall, the year offered plenty of stories that were told just as well (or better) in photos. Above is just a very small sampling of some of the images that defined Moorestown in 2012. Think we missed something? Let us know. Or better yet, upload your own photos and show us.

Moorestown in Pictures: 2011

Moorestown Patch brings you some of the defining images of the year that was.

They say a picture's worth a thousand words.  Fortunately, writers like me can still get work. But 2011 offered plenty of stories that were told just as well (or better) in pictures. Above is just a very small sampling of the news and images that defined Moorestown in 2011. Think we missed something? Let us know. Or better yet, upload your own photos and show us.

Year in Review: Life in Moorestown in 2011

From a miracle plane to a rescued Chilean miner to the liquor referendum, take a look back on life in Moorestown in 2011.

What do potables, patriotism, playgrounds and planes have in common? Each was part of Moorestown living in 2011. We already brought you the year in news for schools, sports and government news. Now it’s time to recap “the rest,” the news that doesn’t neatly fit into any one category but, when added together, paints a picture of the year in Moorestown life in 2011. You knew it was coming first: 2011 was the year of liquor in Moorestown. Specifically, should the town bring to an end its century-plus of dryness to allow liquor sales? Voters ultimately said yes, but debate raged in the comments section of many Patch stories. We covered it all, from the petition efforts to the court cases to the teleconferences to the promise of a top chef at …

Year in Review: Moorestown Sports

Relive the year's top sports stories in Moorestown.

It looks like Moorestown’s two-decades-long sports tradition is in no danger of ending soon. As they have for 22 previous years, the girls’ tennis team once again captured the sectional title this year. The team was just one of several Moorestown squads and athletes winning titles this year. Junior Quaker wrestler Niles Turner won his championship heavyweight bout, the Moorestown Quakes won the SJYHL Middle School A championship, the boys’ lacrosse team triumphed at the Group 3 finals, as did the girls’ lacrosse team, girls’ soccer won the Liberty Division title, and field hockey player Mary Flick took home a national title. For other Moorestown teams, though, this was the year of close but no cigar. The girls’ basketball team lost in the …

Year in Review: Moorestown Schools

From pay-to-participate to students' heroics, catch up with the top Moorestown school news from 2011.

Every school year brings an expected slate of stories. A new class graduates from high school, Baker “claps out” its third-graders, students party at the prom and showcase their talents in school productions. But it’s the individual stories that made this year stand out. Take the students who quickly became heroes by saving a fellow student on the bus. Or the retirement of “Myrtle,” aka bus driver Dorothy Kube, who shuttled generations of Moorestown students safely to and from school. Students at South Valley doodled for Google, high school students formed a new a cappella group in the Quaker Noats, Upper Elementary students showcased their science pursuits, Baker named its bear in a show of civic responsibility and middle school students …

Year in Review: Moorestown Government News

Open space, turf fields and unanswered town hall questions dominate Moorestown government news in 2011.

2011 began with two issues confronting Moorestown’s Town Council: What to do about the K.I.D.S. Initiative and what to do about town hall. 2011 ended with those same questions largely unanswered. What to do about town hall is still up in the air, years after a fire there. Moorestown took a leap forward by razing the old town hall, but changing plans still haven’t been finalized—nor has the final price. Do you think 2012 will bring answers? Early in the year, a Moorestown resident had one request for town council regarding the K.I.D.S. Initiative: “Float the bond, get the money, fix the fields and do it now.” But by year’s end, none of those things had happened on the project for recreation field improvements. Council did give the town …
