Police Arrest Man for Fatal Stabbing in Maple Shade

The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office and Maple Shade Police say John Borger IV stabbed Mark Brooks outside his home Saturday night.

A Maple Shade man has been charged with murder after authorities said he stabbed another man outside the victim’s home Saturday night.

According to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, 38-year-old John Borger IV went to the home of Mark Brooks, 44, on the 100 block of South Maple Avenue in Maple Shade armed with a knife and confronted him outside the residence. Authorities said Borger stabbed Brooks and fled the scene.

Brooks was discovered around 10:30 p.m. by another person who arrived at the house and found him on the ground outside, the prosecutor said.

Borger, who lives in the Park Crossing Apartments on Maplewood Drive, was charged with murder Sunday morning after being questioned by Maple Shade Police.

Brooks and Borger were acquaintances, according to the prosecutor’s office. However, authorities did not release information regarding a possible motive for the slaying.

Authorities believe they recovered the knife used in Brooks’ murder.

An individual on Facebook who identifies himself as a John Borger, of Maple Shade, is a graduate of Haddon Township High School (‘93) and Rutgers-Camden (‘98). He also lists himself as a West Collingswood Heights native and a former employee of the Hollywood Casino in Perryville, MD.

Bail for Borger was set at $750,000, with no 10 percent option. A first appearance for Borger will be held Monday at the Burlington County court facility in Mount Holly.

The case is being investigated by detectives from the Maple Shade Police Department and the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.
